The Portuguese forward has joined the Reds from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a £45m deal and a special behind the scenes video reveals his reaction at seeing his own LFC shirt
Diogo Jota became Liverpool latest summer signing at the weekend – following hot on the heels of Thiago Alcantara’s Anfield arrival.
Jota has joined the Reds from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal that could be worth up to £45million.
The Portuguese forward will add to Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options after an impressive spell at Molineux.
Liverpool have now released a video of Jota’s signing, giving fans a fascinating look behind the scenes.
It shows the player arriving at Anfield by car and being welcomed by club staff and the media team – all wearing masks, of course, to protect against coronavirus.
Jota cannot hide his excitement to be joining the Premier League champions – “It’s a big step,” he says.
Then it is on to club media duties, starting by his picture taken with a Liverpool shirt.
There’s some small talk, with Jota chatting about having a son on the way – prompting someone to comment: “He’ll grow up to be a Scouser now!”
In his first interview with the club, he says: “It’s a really exciting moment for me, for my family.
“To join a club like Liverpool – world champions – it’s just unbelievable.”
It’s all smiles as jokes are shared and Jota gets his hands on his number 20 shirt, sporting “Diogo J” on the back.
He records a video message for the fans, and is also filmed saying into the camera in his best Scouse accent: “What’s happening?”

Liverpool shared another video featuring Jota leaving Wolverhampton at 8am on the day of his signing and heading to Merseyside for his medical.
“I hope everything goes OK,” he says.
Thankfully, it does go OK – after all the usual medical checks, apparently including two hours of MRI scans.
With the medical completed, Jota heads off to Anfield, where he sees his new shirt hanging up in the home dressing room.
He says: “There it is. Perfect.”
