Ederson And Oblak Were Both Together At Rio Ave In The 2012-13 Season
Jan Oblak and Ederson Moraes are two of the best goalkeepers in the world. One of them is at Atletico Madrid and the other is at Manchester City and they were both together for one season at Portuguese side Rio Ave.
Every weekend, Jan Oblak and Ederson Moraes are in the headlines because of their great saves. The Slovenian is brilliant for Atletico while the Brazilian is one of the Premier League’s best goalies.
Both are fighting to win the Champions League this season. Atletico, now in the quarter-finals, needed a sensational Jan Oblak to knock out Liverpool while Man City have to still play the second leg versus Real Madrid.
The duo were together at Rio Ave in Portugal during the 2012-13 campaign. 20 year-old Oblak was number one while 19 year-old Ederson was the back up.
Oblak arrived at Rio Ave on loan from Benfica. That is where he began to show his quality. He was called back by Benfica a year later and the Portuguese outfit were Europa League runners-up. From there he moved to Atletico where he is today.
The 2012-13 season was the Brazilian’s first at the club and he had to wait for his opportunity on the bench. A year later he became number one taking over from Oblak.
The Brazilian came through the Benfica academy. He returned there for the 2015-16 season and he then signed for Man City after two seasons in the Portuguese capital.
Few would have imagined back in 2012 that they had two of the best goalkeepers in the world. Ederson and Oblak competed for a place in a team which finished that season just three points off the European places and above Sporting Lisbon.
