iPadOS 13 Release Date Set for September 30
Wondering when iPadOS 13 will be coming out for iPad? Well wonder no more!
Apple has announced that the official release date of iPadOS 13 is September 30.
Notably, that is several weeks after the debut of iOS 13 for iPhone, but it does coincide with the availability of the new 10.2″ iPad models. You may recall that iPadOS for iPad is now separate from iOS for iPhone and iPod touch, though the two differently named operating systems continue to share most features. Nonetheless, they are launching on two separate dates as well.
iPadOS 13 features a new Dark mode theme option, an option to pin the Today widgets on the iPadOS Home Screen, new multitasking capabilities and features, support for external mouse and pointing devices, performance improvements, notable updates to the Photos, Notes, and Reminders apps, the ability to connect to SMB shares with Files app, the ability to connect to external storage devices like USB sticks or hard drives with Files app, and much more.
iPadOS 13 will be available as a free download to all iPad users with a compatible device. iPadOS 13 compatible iPad devices include all iPad Pro models (including the iPad Pro 9.7″, 10.5″, 11″, and 12.9″ models), iPad 10.2″ 7th generation 2019 model, iPad 6th generation 2018 model, iPad 5th generation 2017 model, iPad Air 3 2019 model, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 5 2019 model, and iPad mini 4.
For the impatient iPad users out there who can’t stand waiting until the September 30 final release date, installing iPadOS 13 public beta remains an option, though do note that beta system software is less stable and more prone to bugs and other issues compared to final versions.
There is some assumption that iPadOS 13 will actually debut versioned as iPadOS 13.1, which is currently under beta development and available to both developers and public beta testers.
The September 30 release date was announced by Apple during the recent iPhone 11 event, and is also posted to the iPadOS product page as highlighted in the image below:
