Setien Spoke Prior To The Game Against Espanyol

Barcelona coach Quique Setien spoke in the press conference prior to the game against Espanyol. The boss said the table does not matter when it comes to derby matches.

The Barcelona coach Quique Setien spoke prior to the derby against Espanyol where he highlighted the importance of a derby and he referred to Bartomeu’s comments on the club’s future.

Setien on his own future: “I didn’t have the feelings things could change. I’ve overcome these moments which happen in football, I just do my job.”

VAR: “I’ve haven’t heard the president’s comments, but there are situations which surprise all of us. Sometimes they go to the monitor and other times they don’t. We have an extraordinary tool, but it is not been used consitently.

This needs to be clarified because it’s concerning. In the endm everyone interprets it in their own way. The referees themselves need to be consistent. There is always a team who gets benefitted in a particular moment,” he said.

Setien also said he as “quite happy” not only with the results, but also with how the team is playing. He also had a pop at the media. “I think we’ve done many things well; I’m emphasising it because I know that you only go off the result to decide whether a coach should continue or not. I have my own criteria and you will not convince me otherwise.”

On winning the league: “Of course we can win the league. It is mathematically possible.”

Griezmann: “The other day he was extraordinary, but I wouldn’t base it only on that. He has enough quality to show what he is capable of. He had an extraordinary moment of inspiration at Villarreal and the three up top combined well.”

Arthur: “He’s still training, he shows enthusiasm and he tries to do the best he can. Then there is the decision of whether I want to play him or not.”

De Jong will miss the Espanyol game but he should be back for the Valladolid fixture. “That would be the ideal thing. He is feeling better and better and the plan is for him to gradually return.”

On Vidal’s future the coach said the media would have to ask the Chilean that, but that he counts on him as he does with all of his contracted players.

Ansu Fati: “He’s doing very well. He’s a kid who shows lots of interest and he’s very keen to improve and learn.”

On Espanyol being relegated: “It’s not Barca who will have relegated Espanyol if we win. It’s the process over what has happened over the whole season.”
